Unlocking Learning: Designing Digital Escape Rooms for Education - 1-5 June 2026
Find a way out of the grey everyday routine! – Digital educational escape rooms in education
Join us for an exciting Erasmus Staff Week programme that focuses on the innovative educational use of digital escape rooms! This practice-oriented, 20-hour course guides participants through the entire process of designing and implementing motivating, collaboration-based digital escape rooms that enhance learning outcomes and can be applied across different educational levels—all within one intensive week.
During the week, we will design and develop an educational escape room with interconnected challenges using a digital platform.
But first, let’s take a look at what educational escape rooms actually are.
When an escape room is used as an educational tool, learners work in small groups and immerse themselves in an engaging story. Within this narrative, they solve a series of puzzles that unlock access to the next challenges, allowing them to progress toward the final conclusion of the story.
This methodological approach activates learners’ 21st-century skills, such as problem-solving, creativity, cooperation, and communication. As they strive to successfully complete their mission and solve all the challenges, they collaboratively acquire new knowledge and apply what they have learned previously.
In our programme, participants can expand their professional toolkit with digital escape rooms and learn how to take the learning experience in their own classrooms to the next level using modern technologies such as augmented reality (AR) and immersive virtual reality (VR). They will also discover how artificial intelligence (AI) can support the design of educational escape rooms.
From the initial preparation phase through the development and testing of challenges to the final presentation, the course provides all the tools and knowledge needed to create an interactive and dynamic learning environment. As the highlight of the week, participants will present their own digital escape room projects, followed by constructive feedback and shared reflection.
No prior programming experience is required to participate—only basic digital competence. In addition to the morning hands-on workshops, participants can enjoy rich and engaging cultural programmes. You will explore the surroundings of our university in 7th district through a uniquely designed hybrid escape room experience developed by our team. We also offer – as optional program – a guided city tour and a museum visiting.
Unleash your creativity, put your problem-solving skills to the test, and bring colour to everyday routines with the power of digital escape rooms!
