Health Behaviour in School-aged Children Research Group - HBSC

The Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) study is a unique international project, which aims to gain new insight into and increase understanding of health behaviour, lifestyles and their context in young people in Europe and North-America. It examines 11-15 year-old students’ self-reported health status, i.e. well-being, and health-related habits (both health-supportive and health compromising behaviours), as well as influencing factors (i. e. bio-psycho-social environment of statuses and behaviours). HBSC was initiated in 1982 in three countries. Hungary joined in 1985 in the second joining wave. Surveys within the study are conducted in a growing number of countries. Since 1985 surveys have been conducted at four-year intervals. Tha latest international survey was carried out in the 2017/18 academic year. This was the ninth nationally reperesentative survey (involving more than 6000 students) in Hungary.
