Aim of the research
The main aim of the research is to explore how higher education institutions are adapting to the challenges of the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence in the context of learning and teaching processes. In the first phase of the research, we will conduct a scoping review of the literature on Artificial Intelligence in Education and, with a specific focus, a systematic literature review to explore how one of the most widely used models of technology adoption and use (UTAUT) has been used in higher education contexts. In the second phase of the research, we will examine recent national policy and institutional responses by analysing relevant documents to get an overview of the responses. Furthermore, one of the main objectives of the research is to test a research model based on an extended technology adoption and use model that takes into account the specificities of pedagogically informed AI use and other theoretical considerations of innovation theory and technology integration theory. Related to this, data will be collected in a targeted way among participants of a pilot course and a self-paced online course on the educational use of AI, by analysing the resulting participant documents (lesson plan, reflection, good practice description, competency test) and by questionnaire. The research reflects on the identified gap in the theoretical underpinning of research on the educational application of AI.
